Don't Waste Your Hard Work


After a workout, it can be really tempting to treat yourself to an extra snack or dessert, but that is a sure way to derail your progress toward a healthy weight. The reality is that most of us overestimate the amount of calories we burn during exercise and underestimate the amount of calories in the food that we eat. One study published in the Annals of Epidemiology found that participants in one study underestimated the amount of calories they consumed by over 25 percent on average (livestrong.com). All of this is to say that eating an extra snack or dessert as a treat will likely undo the hard work and benefits of exercise, especially if your goal is weight loss. If you are feeling hungry after a workout, try snacking on a serving of fresh fruits, vegetables or heart-healthy whole grains.
