Tips for Working Out at Home

We have all found ourselves confined to our homes for the foreseeable future and it is important to keep up with exercise. It might be even more important now for your emotional and mental health than it ever has before. If you are new to exercise or have never done it on your own I am providing some tips to help you out!

Include cardio that you love to do so that you get your heart rate up and have fun!

  • Go for a walk or run

  • Ride your bike

  • Dance

  • Jump Rope

  • Jog in Place

  • Do staircase exercises

  • Play with your kids, your dog, throw a frisbee or football

  • You can do so many bodyweight exercises!

Be creative with what you have!

  • If you have any dumbbells you can do a lot

  • Or you can use objects for weights (like cans or filled water bottles)

  • You can do a lot of strength training exercises on stairs

Purchase some equipment to keep at home like dumbbells and resistance bands to challenge you even more. You can also buy a TRX (https://www.trxtraining.com/) that allows you to do many different full body workouts with one piece of equipment.

If exercise is new to you, it doesn’t have to be complicated to start. Do basic exercises in those first few weeks. Include squats, push ups, tricep dips, plank, wall sits, jumping jacks, squat jumps, arm circles and lunges in your workouts. The bottom line is that you have everything you need already to get started with an exercise routine at home!
